Round on both ends and high in the middle

For those of you in the Ohio area--these look to be in nice shape...

Altec 846A Speakers

If you could talk him down to 600-700 you'd have a better deal if the drivers are in as good of condition as the cabs. Wonder what he means by this "These are the prized 16 ohm versions"??

I think you're right--that's probably what they meant. The 846 A's that I own do have the "Altec Green" colored drivers. I once read somewhere on this forum someone said "the greenies sound better" but I've never noticed that.....

I have both the A's & B's and cannot tell any difference in sound other than that attributed to the different cabinet design.

Of course everyone knows that green sounds better than black.

Not really a true indication, but just an observation: around 1992 or so I wanted to get two more 511B borns. I have two 802D drivers tucked away that I bought new in 1968, and replaced with 808-8a in 1971 I think, when they first came out, Well, the new ones are black, and to me the quality of the welds is not as good. They are still in the cartons, although the cartons have suffered from a roof leak (humdity) in my garage. Turns out, now I have 8 511Bs. Also 4 dead 416 small and large frame. and some other stuff.
